![]() You can remove the cutting blade and sharpen it on your own with a sharpening stone, or you can have it done professionally. When blades do get dull, it’s time for them to be sharpened or replaced. ![]() So, I think it’s safe to say that clippers do go full, regardless of the blades moving across each other. I’ve even used trimmers that wouldn’t cut hair at all, even though they were on and running (another sign of a dull blade). I have owned hair clippers and trimmers that start to pull hair (a sign that the hair clippers are dull). In fact, some of the higher-end clipper brands recommend sharpening and (or) replacing the cutting blade if it starts to become dull. I do find it hard to believe considering other clipper manufacturers–particular the more expensive ones–don’t seem to make that claim. They claim that since the steel blades are moving against one another that is sufficient to sharpen hair clippers. You may have noticed that some hair clippers–cheaper ones surprisingly–claim that they are “self-sharpening”. You can use the spray before, during, or after if you want, but I would make sure I do it at least once with each use. What’s nice about the Andis spray is that it also cools the blades if they tend to get hot during haircuts. Use the baby brush to remove any cut hair from your clippers, and use the Andis spray to disinfect and lubricate. To get the most longevity out of your hair clippers, proper maintenance is key.Įvery time you use your clippers, you’ll want to brush away any cut hair, disinfect, and lubricate before you use them again.Ī baby brush and a can of Andis Cool Care (paid link) will be good enough for all your basic maintenance. So, 10 to 15 years is probably a good estimate when clippers are used everyday. If I had to guess, I would say that barbers usually get about 10 years out of their clippers, maybe longer.īack when I used to go to the barber shop every week, I remember my barber replacing his hair clippers only one time in the 15 years that he’d been cutting my hair. If you are using hair clippers everyday, say if you’re a barber, your clippers probably won’t last a lifetime, but should still get you plenty of years-especially when you buy professional-grade clippers. Doing this will help you get the most life out of your clippers. That being said, I have had to replace my clippers because I dropped them–and that sucks.Įven though I use them on a weekly basis, which might be more than others do, I make sure I take care of them every time I use them by removing cut hair, disinfecting, and lubricating them. So far, I have never had to replace my clippers simply because they quit working. I cut my hair once a week, and I’ve been doing that for about 7 years now. If you are using hair clippers for personal use, or to cut your own hair like I do, your hair clippers will likely last a lifetime. But if you are using hair clippers for occasional or personal use, they will probably last a lifetime. ![]() Hair clippers that are used every sing day, day in and day out are probably going to last on the shorter end of that spectrum, probably closer to 10 years or so. Unless hair clippers are dropped, you can expect them to last 10 years or longer. Hair clippers are made to last for many years, especially with routine cleaning and blade sharpening or replacement. Even the cheaper ones should have a decent amount of longevity. After all, they are supposed to cut hair all day long, day in and day out. Hair clippers-for the most part-are pretty much built to last. If you’re going to invest, possibly hundreds of dollars on clippers, it’s probably worth considering how long they should last you. Your $20 clipper may not bother you too much of it only lasts a few months, but what about the clipper that costs hundreds of dollars? Hair clippers cost anywhere from $20 on the low end, on up to $300 or more on the high-end. When it’s time to make that investment, there are many different options and many different prices to choose from. But to others, they are an important investment and something to be valued. Hair clippers are a nuisance to some, probably because some people only buy them because they have to.
